Valtrex is an antiviral medication that is prescribed to treat certain types of viruses and outbreaks caused by viral infections. The most known of these viral outbreaks is called herpes,including shingles and cold sores.This drug helps just to prevent outbreaks and diminish these symptoms.

Directions

It's recommended to take this medicine only as it was prescribed by your doctor, that helps you to reach the best results.You should begin treatment with the first occurrences of symptoms. Take it with or without food every 8 hours ( 3 times a day) over the time of one week. If you have the symptoms of genetic herpes take it twice daily during 5 days. If you have the symptoms of cold sores, take it only for one day.

Precautions

Don’t use if you have the problems with the immune system, advanced HIV disease or had a bone marrow or kidney transplantation.Take the medicine as it was prescribed and diminish the risk of infection of your partner. Don’t take this drug if you are pregnant.

Contraindications

The patients with allergic reactions and kidney disease can’t use this medicine.

Possible side effect

Valtrex, like most prescription medications, can cause side effects that range from very serious, such as kidney failure, seizures and coma, to mild, such as headache, stomach pain and slight dizziness. Some other possible side effects include depression, vomiting, hallucination, shaky movements, aggressive behavior and trouble speaking properly. Also it may include any allergic reaction. If you find out a rash as a result of taking this medicine , severe itching, confusion, a fever, blood in your urine or a yellowing of your eyes or skin, contact your health care provider immediately.

Drug interaction

Valtrex cooperates with Probenecid (Benemid) and cimetidine (Tagamet, Tagamet HB). Note that interaction between two medicines doesn’t mean that you should cease taking one of them. It’s obligatory to connect with your doctor

Missed dose

If you forgot to take your dose in time, please do it as soon as you remember. But do not take if it is too late or almost time for your next dose.Take your doses of drug at regular intervals. Do not exceed your dose.

Overdose

Any known overdosed symptoms. If you think you have it consult your doctor obligatory.

Storage

Store this medicine at room temperature between 59-77 degrees F (15-25 degrees C) away from light and moisture. Keep all drugs away from reach of children and pets. Throw away after the expiration.
