General information

Femara belongs to the class of anti-estrogens. It works lowering estrogen levels in postmenopausal women to prevent certain types of breast cancer.

Directions

It is recommended to take the medicine as it was prescribed by your doctor. You can take it with or without meal, with a glass of water. The recommended dose is 2.5 mg one time per day. Do not exceed your dosage.

Precautions

Before starting your treatment with Femara tell your doctor about all the conditions you may have, especially about liver disease. Pregnant women can't take the medicine. Use effective birth control methods.

Contraindications

Pregnant women can't take Femara.

Possible side effects

Side effects can be the following: hives, rash, difficulty breathing, facial swelling and also hot flashes, headache, night sweats, muscle or joint pain, fatigue, feeling weak, weight gain, nausea, swelling in the extremities. If you experience any of the side effects listed above contact your doctor.

Drug interaction

Tell your doctor about all the medicines you may use. Femara interacts with Tamoxifen, Letrozole, medicines metabolized by cytochrome P450 isoenzymes (2A6 and 2S19).

Missed dose

Take the missed dose as soon as possible. If it is almost time of the next intake just skip it and go back to your schedule.

Overdose

If you think you have overdosed the medicine seek emergency medical help at once.

Storage

Store the medicine at room temperature between 20-25 C (68-77 F), away from moisture, heat, and sunlight. It is not recommended to store in a bathroom and places available for children.
